Youth golfers from Madison County posted solid scores on the first day of the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour Championship in Goshen.

After an excellent first round, Richmond's Warren Thomis will take a two-stroke lead into Tuesday atop the boys 14-and-under division. Thomis shot a +3, 74 and is in first place.

The two-day event is being held at the Big Spring Country Club Inc. - Harmony Landing Campus.

Fellow Richmond native Landen Howard shot a +9, 80 and is tied for sixth in the same division.

Crestwood's Owen King trails Thomis by two strokes while Louisville's William Crockett is in third -- trailing Thomis by three strokes.

In the boys overall division, Cooper Eberle shot a +6, 77, and is tied for 10th.

The division is co-led by Louisville's Andrew Flynn, Louisville's Bryce Beard and Campbellsville's Hayes Mason. Each player shot +3, 74 on Monday.

In the girls 13-18 overall division, Richmond's Elizabeth Eberle shot a +15, 87 and is tied for 13th.

The final round is set for today.
