BEREA -- The Lady Mountaineers moved one step closer to their first-ever USA South Conference regular-season championship on Wednesday at the Seabury Center.

Bailee Vanover scored a game-high 20 points as Berea College (19-4, 14-1 USA South) rolled past Brevard College, 61-41. The win was the ninth-straight for the Lady Mountaineers.

Berea ran out to a 13-0 lead over the Tornados and never trailed.

With just one more conference game left on the schedule, the Lady Mountaineers are one game ahead of Piedmont College in the league standings. The team with the best overall record gets the opportunity to play host to the conference tournament.

Berea can clinch the title with a win over Huntingdon (19-4, 12-3) on Saturday at the Seabury Center.

The Lady Mountaineers had a 16-8 lead after one quarter against Brevard and went into halftime on top 35-19.

Vanover, a freshman point guard, also had five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Kristin Barnes had 10 points and three rebounds. Leah Parker had eight points and four rebounds off the bench. Briana Lanham and Savanna Fallis both had five points and four rebounds.

Berea hit 20-of-23 free throw attempts and led by as much as 26 points in the second half.

The Lady Mountaineers also out-rebounded the Tornados 49-26.

Berea shot 33.3 percent from the field and hit 5-of-15 three-pointers.

Brevard shot 29 percent and was 4-of-21 from three-point range.

Bethanie Williams had four points and six rebounds for Berea. Nakeisha Greene had four points and six rebounds. Kiley Barnard had three points and five rebounds, while Isis Hill added two points.

The Lady Mountaineers are set to return to action Friday in a non-conference match-up with Kentucky Christian.
