BEREA -- The Lady Mountaineers led for most of the first half against Transylvania University on Tuesday at the Seabury Center.

A jumper by Destiny Combs gave Berea College a 22-15 advantage with 4:18 left in the second quarter.

The Pioneers (2-0) responded.

Transy put together a 10-0 run and went into halftime up 27-25.

The Lady Mountaineers (3-1) led only once more -- for just more than a minute -- in the second half.

The Pioneers, who are ranked No. 16 in the latest NCAA Division III poll, pulled away for a 65-57 win.

Freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton had a team-best 17 points and four rebounds.

Leah Parker had 14 points and Bethanie Williams had 12 points and three steals.

The in-state showdown featured six ties and 14 lead changes.

Berea shot just 29 percent from the field (22-of-75) and was 8-of-26 from three-point range. The Lady Mountaineers were also just 5-of-10 from the free throw line.

Transy shot 37.9 percent from the field and was 4-of-24 from three-point range.

The teams combined for 24 turnovers (14 by Transy).

Ashton Woodard had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Pioneers.

Combs had four points and seven rebounds for Berea. Kristin Barnes had three points. Bailee Vanover, Briana Lanham and Isis Hill each had two points, while Destanie Love had one point and three rebounds.

Berea is set to return to action Friday at home against Indiana University-Southeast.
