Abbey Mayes was able to slow down one of the top offensive teams in the state on Monday during the opening round of the 11th Region Tournament in Versailles.

However, the Yellow Jackets were finally able to break through.

A single by Claire Lehmkuhler in the bottom of the 11th inning gave No. 7 Woodford County (28-5) a 2-1 win over Madison Central (16-16).

The Lady Yellow Jackets move on the semifinals to face Lafayette.

Mayes turned in a remarkable performance.

She allowed just eight hits, did not walk a batter and had 10 strikeouts. The junior threw 142 pitchers.

Lehmkuhler was just as impressive.

The sophomore scattered 13 hits over 11 innings, walked two and had 11 strikeouts. She threw 169 pitches.

Woodford jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on a single by Jocelynn Edwards.

The Lady Indians pulled even in the third.

Haley Sebastian singled to lead-off the inning. Macaila Morin put down a sac bunt and Hannah Ison delivered an RBI single.

Central had plenty of chances to take the lead later in the game.

The Lady Indians left 12 runners on base.

They had at least one hitter reach in every inning, except the first and the 11th.

Central had a pair of singles in the second, but a double play killed that rally.

Natalie Ison and Maggie Rose had back-to-back singles to lead-off the fourth, but were stranded.

Central also got back-to-back singles from Madison Barnard and Hannah Ison in the fifth.

Barnard had a one-out double in the seventh inning as well.

Barnard was 3-for-3, while Hannah Ison was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Natalie Ison was 4-for-5, Rose was 2-for-4 and Sebastian was 1-for-5 and scored a run.

Mayes walked twice.

Parker Presnell was 1-for-5.

Leea Cole was 4-for-5 for Woodford County.
