A pair of Eastern Kentucky University basketball players have been honored by the Ohio Valley Conference.
Shameekia Murray was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday, while senior Corey Walden was named the OVC Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Murray averaged 18.5 points-per-game and 4.5 rebounds-per-game last week.
The native of Claxton, Ga., came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points and grab a career-high six rebounds in EKU’s 62-56 win at Alabama A&M on Wednesday. She scored a team-best 16 points, grabbed three boards and dished out two assists in the Colonels’ 70-56 loss to Richmond on Sunday at McBrayer Arena.
Murray — a transfer from South Georgia Technical College — currently ranks second on the team in scoring (10.5 points-per-game) and field goal percentage (46.5).
Murray and the Colonels open conference play against Austin Peay on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Walden led EKU with a game-high 18 points in Friday’s win over No. 18 Miami.
The Daytona Beach native also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
He hit two long three-pointers in the final five minutes to squelch any Miami comeback attempt.

In both games combined, Walden shot 55 percent (12-of-22) from the field and made 4-of-9 from three-point range. He also averaged three steals and 2.5 assists per game.
EKU is set to return to action Tuesday at Coppin State.
