Berea College has been picked to finish second in the USA South Athletic Conference's Western Division.
The league released its annual preseason poll on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers received a total of 25 points in addition to one first-place vote.
Covenant College was selected to repeat as division champions. The Scots got six first-place votes and a total of 36 points.
LaGrange and Maryville also got 25 points in the poll. Piedmont was fifth, Huntingon was sixth and Brevard was seventh.
Methodist was picked to win the USA South Eastern Division. The Monarchs got three first-place votes and edged out last year's champion N.C. Wesleyan in the preseason poll
Berea College has a combined record of 9-25 against league opponents since joining the USA South in 2017 -- and has not qualified for the conference tournament.
But, the Mountaineers return eight players from the team that went 11-4 (6-12 USA South) last season -- including their top three scorers (Torrel Carter, Isaac Caudill and Andrew Doty).
Berea will open the season with an exhibition game against EKU on Oct. 31 at McBrayer Arena.
