The 2019-2020 Madison Central dance team was very busy this summer.

The girls practiced, participated in community service and bonded through team-building activities.

These young ladies are learning how to be more than competitive dancers — they are aspiring to be a part of something bigger than self.

In June, the team volunteered at the Special Olympics State Games. The girls packed lunches for the athletes, helped with track and field events and cheered on athletes competing in gymnastics and other events.

The girls have also been developing an even stronger bond with each other through activities like hiking the pinnacles.

In July, the girls attended and NDA Elite Dance Camp at the University of Louisville. They earned the following honors: Technical Excellence Award, Most Spirited Award, Superior Ribbon for Team Routine and a bid to NDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

Thirteen girls from the team were nominated for All-American Dancer. After an audition process the following girls were named NDA All-American Dancers — seniors Emily McKinney, Emma Rupard and Livi Woods; juniors Ryleigh Blythe, Allie Hazelwood, and Belle Murphy, along with freshman Emma Kate Brumley.

In August, the girls decided to help bring awareness to the need for all women age 40 and older to have yearly mammograms. They decided to run the Midsummer Night’s Run 5K in Lexington, in which the proceeds from the entry fees go to mammography for women that don’t have health insurance.

The MC cheerleaders and dance team brought a great deal of excitement to the start of the 2019-2020 school year at the opening day pep rally.

On Aug. 24, the girls performed on sidelines and at halftime of the Roy Kidd Bowl game against Conner. They are excited to continue supporting Madison Central Athletics throughout the school year.
