Shelby Romine came up just short of a double-double, but its wasn’t enough to help the Lady Mountaineers pick up a win in their home opener.

Berea College shot just 21 percent from the field and had 34 turnovers in a 77-39 loss to St. Catharine Tuesday at the Seabury Center. Romine had a team-high 10 rebounds and nine points as the Lady Mountaineers fell to 0-2 on the season.

Freshman Katelyn Butler also had nine points and Megan Walker, another freshman, had six points. Jessica Pierce finished with seven rebounds and three points while Makenzie Stoner and Annie Garland each had five points.

St. Catharine (3-0) shot just 43 percent from the field and had 24 turnovers, but got a 27-point, 13-rebound performance from Janae Howard.

St. Catharine also dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Berea 52-36.

The Lady Mountaineers are set to return to action this weekend in the Berea Tip-off Classic.
