Stuart Witt is once again right in the hunt for a championship.
The former Madison Central standout is tied for fourth after the first round of the 2010 Kentucky Junior Amateur Championships at Lindsey Golf Course.
Witt is two shots back of the leader in the boys 17-18 year-old division, Todd McDaniel of Manchester, who shot a 69 on Wednesday.
Garrett Hinton of Elizabeth-town and Nate Johnson of Nicholasville both shot a 70 and are tied for second, while Kyle Wilshire, Matthew Anderson and Witt are all tied for fourth.
Last week, Witt finished second at the Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Classic State Finals in Lexington.
As a result of that solid performance, Witt earned a spot in the 42nd Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Classic, which is scheduled to be played at the Olde York Country Club in Chesterfield, N.J., July 27 through July 30.
On Wednesday at the Kentucky Junior Amateur, Witt shot a 35 on the front nine and a 36 on back nine.
Witt has signed to play golf at Eastern Kentucky University and is set to join the team this fall.
Richmond’s Kyle Congleton shot a 75 on the opening day and is tied for 19th. He is just six shots off the lead.
The final round of the tournament is set for today, starting at 8 a.m.
