Former Model Laboratory High School graduate and softball standout Kara Renfro was recently named the Mid-South Conference Softball Player of the Week. 

The Paint Lick native hit .586 during the week, helping Georgetown College go 7-1. She finished with three home runs, five doubles, two triples and 21 RBIs. She was also seven-of-seven in stolen bases and scored 10 runs. 

It is the fifth time Renfro has been honored as MSC Player of the Week. She is a three-time Mid-South All Conference selection and was a 2007 NAIA Region XI Second-Team selection. 

In her junior season, Renfro batted .475 and was among the Top 25 in NAIA Division I in five offensive categories, including stolen bases (12th). 

Renfro graduated from Model in 2004 and is the daughter of Bo and Joy Renfro and granddaughter of Phillip and Virginia Stump and Mosella Stump of Lancaster. 



MSHS tournament delayed 

Madison Southern’s spring break round robin tournament, which was scheduled to start Friday, has been postponed because of rain. 

Lady Eagle (3-4) coach Brian Foley has gone with a contingency play, moving half the tournament to George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. Eight teams divided into two pools will start play today in the round robin portion of the tournament.

Madison Central, GRC, Estill County and Frankfort will play in Winchester. The Lady Indians (0-2) open with Estill (2-2) at noon, with Clark (8-1) and Frankfort (2-0) to follow. Frankfort turns around to play Estill at 3 p.m. followed by the final game in Winchester between Central and GRC. 

The other pool will play at Southern with Danville (3-2), Lee County (0-2), McCreary Central (2-3) and the Lady Eagles there. Danville and Lee start things at noon followed by McCreary Central and Southern. The Lady Eagles turn around for a 3 p.m. game against the Lady Admirals. Lee and McCreary finish off the games in Berea. 

The top two teams from each pool will advance into a single-elimination tournament on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at Southern.
