A pair of freshmen came up with big defensive stops late in the game to help the Lady Colonels hold onto their lead.
With just under four minutes remaining and EKU up by only four points, Nicole Bowers blocked a shot and came up with a steal that lead to a three-point play on the other end by Carpenter.
Then with only 30 seconds remaining and the Lady Colonels up by only two points, Michaela Hunter stole the ball from an SIUE player at mid-court and raced down for a layup to give EKU the four-point cushion that they were able to hang onto for the win.
