The Lady Colonels (13-8, 7-3 OVC) will be trying to protect their spot at the top of the OVC East Division standings when they take on Jacksonville State 10-15, 6-6 OVC) today at 3 p.m. in Alabama.
EKU leads the East by one game over Belmont (8-4) and Tennessee State (7-4) with five games remaining in the regular season.
The Lady Colonels still have one game with Tech in Cookeville, and a matchup with the Golden Eagles and Belmont in Richmond to finish the season.
EKU is coming of a 69-66 overtime win over rival Morehead State last Saturday. It was the Lady Colonels fifth-straight victory over the Lady Eagles.
Senior Pilar Walker sank two free throws with 17.1 seconds remaining in overtime to put EKU on top 69-66.
But it took two great defensive plays by Miranda Maples and freshman Michaela Hunter that stopped Morehead attempts to tie the game, to seal the victory.
Hunter stepped in front of a Morehead player and picked off a pass with 11 seconds remaining and was fouled.
She missed the front end of the bonus free throws, but Maples raced out of the lane to get a piece of a Morehead three-point shot attempt as time expired to give EKU the win.
Senior Marie Carpenter had a team-high 23 points and now ranks 26th in the nation in scoring, aveaging 21.9 points per game.
The Lady Colonels success this season is due to its stingy defense, which leads the OVC in every major defensive category. EKU ranks 15th in the nation in three-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot only 26.6 percent from behind the arc.
EKU defeated Jacksonville state 68-61 in Richmond on Jan. 18.
