The Lady Pirates, playing in only their second game of the season, picked up a huge win Thursday, beating Jackson County 19-2 in four innings in McKee.

Berea (1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Sarah Thomas’ single scored Mary Jefferson. However, a 13-run second inning blew the game wide open for the Lady Pirates.

Jefferson scored twice, Corianne Montgomery scored twice and Brittany Hogg, Thomas, Sophie Shearer, Taylor Winstead, Shelby Renzenbrink, Brooke Coccari and Tamyra Richardson all scored once. The runs were scored off of eight hits, including a triple by Hogg, as well as doubles by Jefferson, Montgomery, Renzenbrink and Coccari. Montgomery, Winstead, Coccari and Richardson all each had at least one hit in the inning.

Renzenbrink, who was also the starting pitcher for Berea, was the only Lady Pirate to get across the plate in the third, scoring off a single by Coccari. Shearer, Hogg, Noah Short and Paige Edwards all scored in the fourth inning.

The Lady Pirates will return to action today at Monticello.
