Model Laboratory sophomore James Logue hits a shot Monday during a match against Bryan Station at Arlington Country Club.

The Patriots opened defense of their 11th Region title with an easy win over Bryan Station Monday at Arlington Country Club.

Model got a marathon victory from James Logue at No. 1 singles and went on to pick up a 5-0 victory. The Patriots won the other two singles matches in straight sets and both doubles teams rolled to lopsided wins.

“It was a great match,” Model coach Ric Hernandez said. “I was pleased with the results. It’s still early. We are still trying to shake off the cobwebs.”

Logue’s match against Antone Berlander was the highlight of the match.

After dropping the first set, 6-0, the sophomore bounced back to win the second set, 6-4. The final set went to a tiebreaker before Logue prevailed, 8-6.

At the No. 2 singles, Cole Wilson topped Bailey Shearer, 6-2, 6-1. Blake Benson lost just one game at No. 3 singles, rolling past Kyle Settles, 6-1, 6-0.

Model’s top doubles team of Alex Brubaker and Jack Frisbie picked a 1-0 win. At No. 2 doubles, Eric Yoder and Nolan Kelly earned a 6-3, 6-2 win.

In the girls match, Bryan Station defeated Model, 4-1.
