The Madison Central boys varsity soccer team defeated Southwestern, 6-1, in exhibition play Saturday at the Madison Southern Soccerama.
Senior forward Zach Brock scored first for the Indians on a breakaway run. Next to score was junior forward Addison McCoy, also on a breakaway. Southwestern scored its only goal shortly before the end of the first half, the only time Central would be scored on in the preseason.
Junior defender Mike Frantz made a miraculous dive to prevent another Southwestern goal when junior goalie Ben Durham was lured out of the goal.
In the second half, Madison Central never looked back, with a goal by senior midfielder Daniel Parke after a free kick, followed by a second goal by Parke assisted by senior defender Brent Walls, and to complete the hat trick for Parke, an assist by junior defender Ethan Fielder.
Walls fed the ball to freshman forward Dylan Dotson for the final Indian goal of the day.
Additional shots and/or shots on goal included: Senior Austin McAlister (2), Parke (4), Dotson (2), junior Luke Hall (1), senior Evan Roberts (2), senior Sean Livingston (1), senior Zach Owsley (1), senior Max Snyder (1), McCoy (3), and Brock (5).
Durham had three saves while in goal while sophomore Levi Knutson had one save. Free kick duties were shared by McAlister (2), Walls, Livingston, and Brock. Corner kicks were taken by Roberts (2) and McCoy (4).
The Indians begin regular season play Tuesday at Woodford County. The junior varsity is up first at 6 p.m., followed by the Varsity at 8 p.m.
