The top-ranked Bobcats made sure district rival Madison Southern wasn’t going to pull off an upset Friday in Middlesboro.

Bell County, which is the No. 1 ranked Class 4A team in the state, scored the first 29 points of the game and had a 36-7 lead after the first quarter. The Bobcats cruised from there to a 70-7 win, which improved their record to 8-0 on the season.

Southern (1-7) had just 131 total yards and seven first downs. The Eagles’ only score came on a Chris Roberts 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Bell County finished with 512 yards rushing and forced four turnovers (three interceptions). John Dudley Hilton had 157 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Ben Madon and Ryan Collett both also had two touchdowns for the Bell County.

The Bobcats had a 62-7 lead at halftime.

Roberts was 8-of-20 for 105 yards with three interceptions.

Southern’s Ethan Lake had four receptions for 56 yards and Brett Sipple had two catches for 57 yards.

Wes Proctor had 16 yards rushing on three carries and Devon Johnson had 15 yards rushing on five carries.

Southern is set to return to action Friday at Knox Central.
