Berea College senior Rebecca May put together a record-breaking performance in her final game at the Seabury Center.

The 5-foot-8 guard connected on a school-record 11 three-pointers and tied a career-high with 37 points as the Lady Mountaineers defeated St. Mary of the Woods 117-77 Friday in Berea. May played 29 minutes, had eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals, two blocked shots and did not have a turnover in the Senior Night win.

The senior also went over the 2,000-point mark for her career and pulled down her 500th rebound in the victory.

“It was great,” Berea coach Bunky Harkleroad said of May’s Senior Night performance. “It was neat to see her do that. She had a lot of friends and family in the crowd and she really stepped up.”

Candy Walls added 25 points and 10 rebounds as the 25th-ranked Lady Mountaineers snapped a two-game skid and improved their record to 19-7 (7-3 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

May and Jenna Lowe held the previous school record with nine three-pointers, but the senior connected on 11-of-25 long-range attempts to add one more accolade to a long list of outstanding accomplishments.

With 2,023 points, May is the leading scorer in Berea College history. Last year, she set the NAIA Division II single-season record by making 159 three-pointers while earning Second-Team All-America recognition. During her career she has made 457 three-point field goals.

In her last two games, May has scored 57 points and brought down 18 rebounds.

Berea jumped out to a 19-point halftime lead (55-36) and continued to pull away in the second half, eventually leading by as much as 43 points. De-An Watkins had 10 rebounds, 10 assists and two points, while Lowe and Stephanie Corry each had nine points.

The Lady Mountaineers forced 31 turnovers, which they converted into 36 points. Berea out-rebounded the Pomeroys 65-49 had 27 second-chance points, and connected on 25 three-pointers.

Berea finishes the regular season Monday at conference rival Alice Lloyd.
