The Madison Central girls golf team opened the 2020 season on Monday with a strong showing at the Model Invitational.

The Lady Indians shot a +46, 334, and finished second at the event, which was held at Boone's Trace National.

Henry Clay took the title team with a total score of 331.

Central had two players finish in the Top 10 individually.

Elizabeth Eberle shot a +5, 77, and tied for second place. Clara Beth Ramsey fired a +9, 81, and tied for sixth.

Abi Buchanan tied for 11th with a +15, 87. Katherine Taylor shot a +17, 89, and tied for 14th, while Amelia Harrel fired a +28, 100 and tied for 24th.

Central's Blue Team shot a +120, 408, and finished fifth in the tournament.

Haley Rice shot a +18, 90, and finished 17th.

Haley Federspiel shot a 97, Mackenzie Federspiel had a 108, Abby Barrett shot a 113 and Emily Barney finished with a 118.

Model had a team score of +148, 436, and finished sixth.

Natalie Knecht led the Lady Patriots with an 89, which tied for 14th place. Allison Shafer shot a 100, Lesley Durr shot a 103 and Elyssa Blackburn fired a 144.

Madison Southern had four golfers compete in the event.

Aysia Brock shot a 116, Brooklyn Hillman shot a 117 and Cadence Rose fired a 149.

Taylor Williams withdrew after nine holes

Central, Southern and Model are all set to return to action today at the Madison Central Lady Indian Invitational at Gibson Bay.

Patriots take seventh place

The Patriots played host to the annual Model Laboratory Invitational on Monday at the University Club at Arlington.

Model finished seventh in the 18-team field with a total score of +43, 331.

Highlands took the team title with a +13, 301. Clay County was second (+24, 312).

Madison Southern (356) was 13th and Madison Central (359) was 15th.

Nate Feese led the way for Model. He shot a +4, 76, and tied for 11th place.

Mason Hamrick fired a +5, 77, and finished 15th.

Caleb Ballard shot an 84, Thomas Luxon fired a 94 and Keegan Michael finished with a 94.

Madison Southern was led by Clifton Scully, who shot a +4, 76, and tied for 11th place.

Sam Bingham shot a 91, Seth Baker fired a 94, Johan Ferguson shot a 95 and Brett Erslan had a 102.

Radney Bales shot an 83 to lead Central. Hayden Wasch fired an 84, Eli Stuart had an 86, Reece Keeton shot a 106 and Levi Darmadj finished with a 109.

Model is set to return to action today at the Flyer Classic in Frankfort.

Southern is set to return to action today at the Rockcastle County Invitational.

Thomis takes second at Gator Invitational

Madison Central got a strong performance from freshman Warren Thomis on Monday at the Greenwood Gator Invitational.

He fired a -3, 69, and finished tied for second place in a loaded field.

Jay Nimmo of Marshall County to the individually title with a -6.

Thomis tied for second with Luke Coyle of Taylor County and Chase Wilson of Franklin-Simpson.

Central finished tied for 8th place in the team standings.

Blake McGinn (+6) tied for 22nd. Gavin McKune (+9) tied for 39th. Bryce Snapp (+12) tied for 54th, Cooper Eberle (+14) tied for 63rd and Jacob Aldridge (+18) tied for 76th.

Central is set to return to action today at the LCA Kentucky Cup at the University Club of Kentucky.
