Members of the Madison Central wrestling team turned in very solid performances earlier this week while competing in the Woodford County Invitational Duals and Individual Tournament.

The team event took place on Tuesday and the Indians finished fifth out of 16 teams. On Wednesday, Central was fourth out of 20 teams in the individual tournament.

In the duals, Central defeated Danville, 72-12, Highlands, 66-18, North Hardin, 54-22, and McCreary Central, 48-30, and also lost to Caldwell County, 38-37.

Johnathan Gilbert (126), Lucas Hutchison (150), Jeffrey Kinley (165) Max McCain (190) and Kyran Jackson (heavyweight) each went undefeated.

The Indians finished with 150.5 points in the individual tournament.

Woodford County (191.5) was second and Caldwell County (164) was third.

Gilbert (No. 4) dominated each of his matches, pinning every opponent in the first period to take the title in the 126-pound weight class. The junior faced Caldwell County’s Cofy Walls (No. 9) in the championship and won by tech fall (16-1).

At the 165-pound weight class, Jeffrey Kinley (No. 2) defeated No. 4 ranked Zack McCourt by major decision (16-7) to advance to the championship match. In the final, he faced No. 1 ranked Brayden Gianonne of Lafayette and dropped a close 6-5 decision.

Lucas Hutchinson (150) and Jackson (heavyweight) each finished fourth in their weight class, Lacey Gilbert (113) was fifth and Logan Cantrel (138) was sixth.

Madison Central returns to action Wednesday for Senior Night as they host Frederick Douglass & McCreary Central in a tri- meet.

The Indians will honor five seniors - Brady Worrrix, Jeffrey Kinley, Thomas Ashford, Max McCain and Kyran Jackson.
