The Madison Central volleyball team improved to 2-1 against 44th District competition with a 3-0 win over Berea Community on Wednesday in Richmond.
The Lady Indians (5-14) won by scores of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-18.
Central racked up 28 kills and 15 aces.
Haven Combs had a team-best eight kills for the Lady Indians and added three blocks, five digs and three aces.
Senior Malyah Penn had five digs, four kills and an ace for Berea Community (13-12).
Central cruised through the first two sets, but Berea didn't back down.
The Lady Pirates charged back from an early deficit to tie the final set at 6-6. Central scored seven-straight points, capped by back-to-back kills by Addison Martin.
The Lady Pirates fought back again, getting within a point (13-12) on a kill by Sophia Dobbins and good serving by Penn.
Back-to-back aces by Reagan Wisman put Central up 18-13. Back-to-back aces by Combs gave the Lady Indians a match point.
Martin had seven kills, six digs and an ace. Tamara Collins had five kills, one block and one dig.
Sophie Hiles had four kills and one dig. Macalia Morin had two kills, two assists, two digs and four assists.
Vespera Meadows finished with 10 assist, four digs and an ace. Sicilia Friend had 34 digs.
Berea's Sophia Dobbins had nine digs and four kills. Taelor Alexander had seven digs. Faith Dennis had 12 assists and two digs.
Central is set to return to action this weekend at the Kentucky Challenge in Lexington.
Berea is set to return to action Monday at the Kentucky School for the Deaf.
Model falls to Frankfort
The Model Laboratory volleyball team fell to 0-9 on the season with a 3-0 loss Wednesday at Frankfort.
The Lady Panthers won by scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-10.
Model is set to return to action today at Burgin.
