The Madison Central volleyball team picked up its first victories of the season last weekend at the Bluegrass Invitational Tournament.

The Lady Indians (2-9) defeated Whitley County and Corbin.

They hoped to build on that momentum when they took on long-time 11th Region rival Scott County at home on Tuesday.

That didn't happen.

Central was handed a 3-1 loss by the Lady Cardinals. Scott County won by scores of 25-20, 13-25, 25-12 and 25-17.

The first set was tied numerous times, the last of which came at 17-17. The Lady Cardinals used a 5-1 run to take control and seal the win.

The Lady Indians jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the second set. They had nine kills and three aces as they pulled even.

Scott County rolled from there, claiming the final two sets.

Macaila Morin had a team-best eight kills for Central and also had 15 digs.

Addison Martin also had eight kills, two blocks, two digs and two aces.

Haven Combs had seven kills and four digs. Reagan Wiseman had 19 assists and one ace.

Sicilia Friend had 24 digs, one ace and one assist. Mary Carol Adams had 17 digs. Vespera Meadows finished with 12 assists, four kills and four digs.

Avrey Rigney had four kills and Sophie Hiles had three kills and three blocks.

Central is set to return to action Tuesday at Clark County.
