The Berea Community softball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a big win on the road.

The Lady Pirates (3-4) built a big early lead and held on for a 7-5 victory over Knox Central on Friday in Barbourville.

Madison Howell went the distance in the circle for Berea. She allowed eight hits, five runs (four earned), with eight walks and eight strikeouts.

The Lady Pirates got a run in the second, then added four more runs in the third. Knox Central answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Berea scored twice in the fifth inning, but the Lady Panthers scored twice in the seventh before Howell was able to close out the victory.

Hailey Woods was 1-for-3 with a walk, double, two RBI and scored twice. Malyah Penn was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Alyssa Carter was 1-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run. Mackenzie Howell doubled and scored a run. Alexis Newman had an RBI. Taelor Alexander and Deidra Caudill each scored a run. Madison Howell was 1-for-4.

Berea is set to return to action April 8 at home against Jackson County.
