The Model Laboratory boys soccer team helped their long-time coach move one step closer to a memorable milestone on Saturday in Richmond.
Thomas Chadwell had three goals and had three assists as the Patriots (10-6) rolled to 9-0 win over district rival Berea Community. Tyler Jones and Keshav Bhandari each had two goals as Model extended its winning streak to six matches.
The victory was the 299th in the 27-year career of coach Steve Savage.
Savage needs just one more win to become just the seventh boys soccer coach in Kentucky to reach 300-victory mark. The coach announced this spring that this would be his last season at the school.
Isaac Brown and Mattox Carter each had a goal as Model beat the Pirates (3-11-1) for the third time this season.
Ethan Vice and Chris Tioukalov each had two assists. Alexander Ball, Chris Bentley and Jonathan Crosby each had an assist, while Zach long earned the shutout in goal.
The Patriots are set to return to action Monday at Lexington Catholic.
Southern tops Anderson County, 8-1
The Madison Southern boys soccer team bounced back from its loss in more than a month with a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon at home.
Garrett Wickersham had four goals and Ru Lemmer added two goals as the Eagles (9-5-3) blasted Anderson County, 8-1. Jase Duerson and Chase Hechemy each had a goal.
The Eagles had their nine-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 5-1 loss on Thursday at Lexington Catholic.
Southern is set to return to action Tuesday at Pulaski County.
Lady Indians, Scott County battle to 1-1 tie
The Madison Central girls soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-1 tie against Scott County on Saturday in Georgetown.
Shelbi Morrison scored her seventh goal of the season (in just seven games) on an assist from Jekauri McKeithen.
The Lady Indians (8-5-1) are set to return to action Monday at home against Bryan Station.
Lady Pirates fall at Southwestern
The Berea Community girls soccer team was handed a 4-1 loss by Southwestern in Somerset.
The Lady Pirates (3-12) have lost four-straight games.
The game was scoreless for more than 60 minutes.
Madison Cummins had Berea's only goal. Emily Maynard had 16 saves.
The Lady Pirates are set to return to action Tuesday at home against Corbin.
