For the second-straight season, Berea Community (0-7) will face Kentucky Country Day (6-1) in the opening round of the KHSAA Class A Playoffs.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday in Louisville.

The winner advances to the District 3 championship to face either Eminence (3-5) or Frankfort (2-4).

The Pirates and Bearcats have become very familiar with each other recently.

This will be the fourth meeting between the programs in just more than 13 months. The Bearcats defeated the Pirates twice last season, including a 50-0 win in the playoffs, and beat Berea, 51-0, on Oct. 9, 2020 in Louisville.

Kentucky Country Day is ranked No. 2 in the latest Associated Press Class A Poll. The Bearcats have won four-straight games. Their only loss of the season came on Oct. 2 at Bullitt East, 28-21.

KCD has racked up more than 1,500 yards -- and 25 touchdowns -- on the ground this season. Eric Dickerson has 568 yards and 11 TDs and Nathan Caldwell has 561 yards rushing and 12 TDs.

Luke Russo has completed 41-of-71 for 766 yards and nine touchdowns with four interceptions. Jalen Todd has 15 catches with five TDs.

In the win earlier this season over Berea, Dickerson had 113 yards on eight rushes with four touchdowns and Caldwell had two rushing TDs.

KCD has not played since Oct. 30.

Berea have had an even longer layoff.

The Pirates were last on the field on Oct. 29. Berea suffered a 44-0 loss to Frankfort on the road.

On the season, the Pirates have scored only 58 points, third-fewest among Class A schools in the state. Berea has been shut out in three of its past four games.

In the loss to Frankfort, the Pirates had just 12 yards of total offense.

Junior quarterback Jayson Coburn has completed 62-of-144 passes of the season with 10 interceptions and five touchdowns.

Jaiden Cunningham has a team-best 488 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
