The Madison Southern boys basketball team moved into the championship game of the Rock Holiday Classic with a big win on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (6-5) picked up a 60-51 victory over Lake Mary Prep (Fla.) in Coconut Beach, Fla.
Southern will face Riverdale Country (N.Y.) in the title game at 1 p.m. today.
Chad Fugate had 24 points to lead the Eagles. Nate Turner had 17 points and seven rebounds. Samuel Lee had seven points and five rebounds.
Jonah Wooten had four points and five rebounds. Britten Robinson had four points.
Jayden Adams and Hunter Buchanan had two points each.
Southern was 15-of-21 from the free throw line. The Eagles hit seven three-pointers, all of which came in the first half.
Pirates win in Indiana
The Berea Community boys basketball team returned to the court on Friday after a two-week break.
And the Pirates were ready to go.
Berea (9-3) jumped out to an early lead and rolled to a 78-53 win over Williamstown at Hoosier Gym Classic in Knightstown, Ind.
Jaylen Dorsey had a team-best 21 points for Berea. He also had six assists, six rebounds and four steals.
Jayden Smith had 13 points. Timmy Thompson had 11 points, seven assists and five steals.
Trenton Wilson had 11 points.
Quenten Morgan had nine points. Will Brennan had five points and seven rebounds.
Chris Seals and Kobe Combs had three points each. Ty Thompson had two points.
Berea was 13-of-20 from the free throw line, had 15 assists and 15 steals.
The Pirates were up 17-13 lead after the first quarter and took a 39-24 lead into halftime.
Berea is set to take on Jackson City today in Knightstown, Ind.
Game time is set for 4 p.m.
Lady Pirates pick up win
The Berea Community girls basketball team opened up play in the City Between the Lakes Shootout on Friday with a victory over the tournament’s host school.
Madison Howell and Alexis Newman each had four three-pointers as the Lady Pirates (6-5) defeated Paintsville, 51-40.
Howell finished with 20 points and five rebounds. Newman had 14 points and three rebounds.
Berea had a 15-6 lead after the first quarter, but Paintsville stormed back to take a 25-19 lead at halftime. The Lady Pirates out-scored the Lady Tigers 19-11 in the third quarter and 13-4 in the fourth quarter.
Sophie Brewer had 10 points for Berea. Isis Rogers had four assists and two points. Chesney Lovins had five assists.
Mackenzie Howell and Emily Maynard each had two points.
Berea was 11-of-19 from the free throw line.
The Pirates are set to return to action in the tournament today against Johnson Central.
