Bryson Perry led the way as the Model Laboratory boys basketball team opened the season with a win Tuesday at home.
The senior guard scored 30 points on 12-of-16 shooting and added four assists in a 73-56 victory over the Wellsprings Guardians. Jackson Perry had 15 points (3-of-3 three-pointers) and had five rebounds.
Nate Feese had 15 points, nine rebounds, six blocks and three assists for the Patriots.
Model was up 20-13 after the first quarter and took a 40-25 lead into halftime.
The Patriots shot 59 percent from the field (28-of-47) and were 7-of-15 from three-point range and 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
Model also had 21 assists.
Colton Collier finished with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists. Thomas Luxon had four points and four rebounds and Ethan Bailey had two points and six assists.
The Patriots are set to return to action Friday at home against Whitley County.
Lady Indians win on road
The Madison Central girls basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 48-40 win Tuesday over Menifee County in Frenchburg.
Eve Carter had 17 points, seven steals and four rebounds for the Lady Indians. Chloe Freeman had 11 points and was 3-of-4 from three-point range. Gretchen Hammitt had seven points. Bailey Hensley finished with five points and five rebounds.
Central forced 29 turnovers, which led to 23 points. The Lady Indians shot 34 percent from the field, but hit 6-of-13 three-pointers. Central was 4-of-9 from the free throw line.
Menifee County out-rebounded the Lady Indians, 44-26.
Nataya Strader had three points. Presley Lochmueller had two points and Raelynn Miller had one point.
Central is set to return to action Wednesday at home against Berea.
Eagles drop opener
The Madison Southern boys basketball team had an eight-point lead (34-26) lead at halftime, but couldn't hold on for a win Tuesday on the road in the season opener.
East Jessamine battled back to claim a 60-59 win in Nicholasville.
Trent DeVries had 26 points and six rebounds for Southern. He hit 8-of-10 free throws.
Jay Rose had 14 points and six rebounds. Jayden Adams had nine points. Michael Bannister had eight points and Walt Smith had two points.
Southern was 18-of-24 from the free throw line.
The Eagles are set to return to action Thursday at home against Madison Central.
