The Model Laboratory girls basketball team opened the season with a 56-30 win over St. Francis on Monday in Louisville.
Keaton Hall scored a team-best 19 points for the Lady Patriots and six rebounds, while Kenzie Ferguson added 13 points.
Model had just a 24-21 lead at halftime, but out-scored the Wyverns 20-4 in the third quarter and 12-5 in the fourth quarter.
Summer Ray had eight points. McKenna Tuttle had seven points. Taylor LeCompte had six points and a team-best eight rebounds. Mary Alex Taylor and Presley Lochmueller had two points each and Sophia Koontz added a point.
Ferguson hit a trio of three-pointers.
Model is set to return to action Thursday at Fairdale.
Berea Community rolls to easy win
The Berea Community boys basketball team rolled to an 83-18 win over Frankfort Christian Tuesday at home in the season opener.
A total of 15 players scored for the Pirates.
Berea scored 31 points in the first quarter.
Jaylen Dorsey had a team-best 13 points and Jayden Smith added 12 points.
Trenton Wilson had nine points. Eric Luppens had eight points. James Brennan and Quenten Morgan had six points each. Timmy Thompson and Nick Harrison had five points each. Will Brennan, Edward Sexton and Ty Smith each had four points.
Canon Cummins, Ty Thompson and Jayson Coburn had two points each, while Kobe Combs had one point.
Berea is set to return to action Friday at home against Eminence.
Lady Pirates fall at Bourbon County
The Berea Community girls basketball team couldn't overcome a poor shooting performance Tuesday on the road.
The Lady Pirates (1-1) shot just 24 percent (12-of-51) and were handed a 57-36 loss by Bourbon County in Paris.
Alexis Newman had nine points and five rebounds to lead Berea. Isis Rogers had seven points. Natalee Clark had five points. Abigail Beard and Mackenzie Howell had four points each.
Madison Howell had three points, while Hannah Lewis and Lauren Stepp each had two points.
Berea was 5-of-26 from three-point range and 7-of-12 at the free throw line.
Bourbon County led 16-9 after the first quarter and was up 33-23 at halftime.
The Lady Pirates are set to return to action Friday at home against Garrard County.
Patriots come up short in double OT
The Model Laboratory boys basketball team opened the season with a double-overtime loss on the road.
Senior Cruse Pingleton had 22 points and seven rebounds, but Whitley County earned a 97-88 win in Williamsburg.
Josh Barrick had 20 points and 13 rebounds for Model. Nate Feese had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Bryson Perry had 13 points.
Ethan Bailey had 11 points and four rebounds and Camden Stamm had eight points and three assists.
Model was 6-of-21 from three-point range and 26-of-45 from the free throw line.
The Patriots also had 16 turnovers.
Model is set to return to action Thursday at home against Buckhorn.
