The Madison Southern boys basketball team opened play in the Taylor County Farm Bureau Insurance Holiday Classic on Tuesday in Campbellsville with a strong performance.

Braden Hudson had 31 points as the Eagles (8-3) picked up an 80-69 win over Washington County. Jay Rose added 13 points, while Blake Simpson (five assists) and Nate Turner had eight points each.

Hezekiah Fogle (six rebounds) and Kyle Linville had six points each as well. Brett Erslan had four points and Cason Nobbe had four points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Eagles will face Marshall County today in Campbellsville.

Southern led 25-16 after the first quarter and took a 49-36 advantage into halftime.

The Eagles led by as much as 17 points and was in front for almost 29 minutes.

Southern shot 50.9 percent from the field (29-of-57), was 9-of-24 from three-point range and hit 13-of-16 free throws.

Central falls to Woodford

The Madison Central boys basketball team had a one-point after three quarters on Tuesday against Woodford County in the White, Greer and Maggard Holiday Classic in Lexington.

The Indians, though, couldn't hold on to that advantage.

The Yellow Jackets rallied to pick up a 55-54 win in consolation bracket action.

Jaylen Davis had 15 points, Will Hardin had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Robby Todd had 13 points and six rebounds. The loss was the second-straight for Central (7-4).

Central shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but only 40 percent in the second half. The Indians had 13 turnovers, which led to 20 Woodford County points.

Trey Skaggs had six points, five assists and four rebounds. Jayden West had six points and four rebounds.

Central is set to return to tournament action today in Lexington.

Lady Pirates suffer first loss

The Berea Community girls basketball team suffered its first setback of the season on Tuesday.

The Lady Pirates (10-1) were handed a 46-28 loss by Heritage (Tenn.) in the semifinals of the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic, which is being held at Raceland High School.

Chesney Lovins had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Berea. Alexis Newman had six points. Madison Howell had five points. Abi Beard had three points and Maddy King finished with two points.

Berea led 8-7 after the first quarter, but trailed 12-10 at halftime. Heritage out-scored the Lady Pirates 16-9 in the third and 18-9 in the fourth.

Berea hit just 10-of-39 field goal attempts and was 5-of-8 at the free throw line.

The Lady Pirates will return to action in tournament play today in Raceland.

Pirates fall in Pineville

The Berea Community boys basketball team scored 19 points in the first quarter of a match-up with Middlesboro on Tuesday in the Chain Rock Classic in Pineville.

The Pirates, however, couldn't build on that early momentum.

Trenton Wilson scored 24 points as Berea (1-9) fell in tournament action, 54-47. Cameron Puckett had 14 points. Quenten Morgan had five points, while Shawn Kiett and Tommy Banderman finished with two points each.

The Pirates are set to return to action today against Floyd Central at 3 p.m.

Lady Eagles fall in Florida

The Madison Southern girls basketball was handed a 46-29 loss by American Heritage (Fla.) on Tuesday at the KSA Events Holiday Classic in Orlando, Fla.

The Lady Eagles (6-5) are scheduled to wrap up play in the tournament today.
