The Madison Southern boys golf team opened the season with a victory over cross-town rival Berea Community on Thursday at the Berea Country Club.

The Eagles defeated the Pirates, 131-157.

Madison Southern eighth-grader Clifton Scully had the low round of the day. He shot a 39 on the nine-hole course.

Jacob Robinson led Berea with a score of 42.

Madison Southern's Ben Ferguson and Jonah Wooten both shot 46, while Jonah Ferguson shot a round of 48.

Berea's Chris Seals had a 57 and Dalton Robinson posted a score of 58.

Howard wins again

Richmond's Landen Howard opened play on the Golfweek Junior Tour with yet another strong performance.

After winning player of the year honors for 2018-2019, Howard beat out a 16-player field to take the title in the boys 13-and-under division Sunday at the Northstar Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio.

Howard shot rounds of 74 and 75 and won by one stroke.

Howard is set to head to Orlando, Fla., next week to play in the Summer World Jr Tournament at Orange County National. He will then play Bay Hill as a special jr golfer invitee of the Golf Channel before playing the in the Southwest Jr Regional Championship at the World Golf Village.
