9.12 central golf

The Madison Central girls golf team claimed its second tournament title of the season with a solid performance Saturday at the 24th annual Henry Clay Invitational.

The event was held at Lakeside Golf Course.

The Lady Indians finished with a team score of +32 and beat out Lexington Catholic by 12 strokes.

Central Elizabeth Eberle took the individual title with an even-par 72. She won by three strokes. It was the first championship of the season for the sophomore, who has shot in the 70s in every competitive round this season, expect one.

"This should help her move up the all-state rankings," Central coach Tennye Ohr said of Eberle's title.

Lydia Harrel, a transfer from Model who was playing in her second event of the season, shot a 78 and tied for fourth place.

Central's Claire Beth Ramsey shot an 81 and tied for eighth. Abi Buchanan shot an 86, Haley Rice fired an 89 and Katherine Taylor shot a 92.

Casey Powell of Dunbar shot a +3, 75, and finished second, while Ashley McLaughlin of Lexington Catholic shot a +4, 76, and finished third.

Indians claims another title

The Madison Central boys golf team claimed its third team title of the season on Saturday in Mt. Sterling.

The Indians shot a 295 to win the Montgomery County Invitational, which was held at Golf at Acorns. Clay County (301) was second and Mason County (305) was third.

Clay Pendergrass shot a 68 to claim his fifth individual tournament title of the season. The sophomore beat out Logan Lilies of Logan County for the championship.

Warren Thomis shot a 71 and finished fifth. Gavin McKune shot a 77 and finished 27th. Playing as an individual, Bryce Snapp shot a 78 and finished 32nd.

Cooper Eberle shot a 79 and finished 36th, while Jacob Aldridge fired an 83 and finished 48th.

Model takes third

The Model Laboratory boys golf team prepared for the All "A" State Tournament with a very solid effort on Saturday at the Tom Johnson Classic in Dry Ridge.

The event, which was hosted by Grant County, took place at Eagle Creek Country Club.

Nate Feese shot a personal-best 73 and tied for ninth as the Patriots finished third in the team standings.

Mason Hamrick shot a 74 and tied for 12th. Thomas Luxon shot a 75 - also a personal-best - and tied for 16th. Caleb Ballard fired an 89 and tied for 60th, while Keegan Michael shot a 106 and tied for 83rd.

Model is set to compete in the All "A" State Tournament on Sunday at Gibson Bay.
