The Madison Central girls golf team picked up its first team victory of the season on Saturday.
The Lady Indians shot a 322 and beat out Sacred Heart by eight strokes to claim the championship of the Villa Madonna Invitational, which was held at Twin Oaks Plantation in Covington.
Senior Mattie Neeley shot a 76 and finished second overall.
Clara Ramsey shot a 79, Reagan Clark posted an 82, Elizabeth Eberle shot an 85 and Katherine Taylor finished with an 86.
Central opened the season on Friday with a second-place finish at the Shelby County Invitational.
The Lady Indians are set to return to action Monday in the Model Lady Patriots Invitational at the University Club at Arlington.
Patriots place fourth
The Model Laboratory boys golf team opened the season with a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Prestonsburg High School Invitational, which took place at StoneCrest Golf Course.
Mason Hamrick led the way for the Patriots, shooting a 79.
Thomas Luxon and Caleb Ballard both shot 81, Nate Feese fired an 86 and Jake Hajjar shot a 101.
Trinity took the title with a team score of 289. Clay County (298) was second and Pikeville (315) was third.
Central finishes fifth in Campbellsville
The Madison Central boys golf team took on some of the top teams in the state Saturday at the Taylor County Invitational in Campbellsville.
The Indians shot a 307 and finished fifth.
Freshman Clay Pendergrass shot a 72 and finished second overall.
Warren Thomis fired a 73, Cooper Eberle and Blake McGinn both shot an 81, while Gavin McKune finished with an 88.
St. Xavier (B) took the title with a 297. St. Xavier (A) and Taylor County tied for second with scores of 298. Trinity (303) was fourth.
