Madison Howell had a game-high 29 points as the Lady Pirates (9-0) remained undefeated on the season with a win on Wednesday afternoon at home.

The senior was 10-of-13 from the field (3-of-6 from three-point range) in a 60-53 victory over West Jessamine. Berea Community was 8-of-17 from long range and shot 56 percent overall from the field.

Alexis Newman was 4-of-7 from three-point range and finished with 12 points and three rebounds. Chesney Lovins had 10 points, three assists and three rebounds. Mati Stepp had eight assists.

Berea had a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and was up 37-27 at halftime.

The Lady Pirates had 19 assists on 23 field goals.

Isis Rogers had four points, four rebounds and three assists. Raegan Stepp had three points, while Abi Beard added two points.

Berea is set to return to action Monday against Elliott County at the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic, which is being played at Raceland High School.

Lady Patriots fall in Lexington

The Lady Patriots were without two starters — EK Lawson (personal) and Kenzie Ferguson (illness) — and still almost came up with a win on the final day of the Sayre School-Jim Lankster Classic on Wednesday in Lexington.

Taylor Lecompte had nine points and 12 rebounds as Model was handed a 31-27 loss by Sayre. Keaton Hall had eight points and eight rebounds, while Paige Mattingly had six points and three rebounds.

Sayre had an 11-2 lead after the first quarter and trailed 18-6 at halftime. The Lady Patriots out-scored the Lady Spartans 7-3 in the fourth quarter.

Model shot 35 percent from the field (2-of-5 three-pointers) and was 3-of-5 at the free throw line. The Lady Patriots had 22 turnovers.

Miaya Bhandari and Alyssa Hudson each had two points.

The loss snapped the Lady Patriots (9-3) four-game winning streak.

Model is set to return to action Dec. 29 at the Eminence Holiday Tournament.
