The Madison Central girls basketball team couldn't overcome a poor shooting performance to come up with a win on Monday in their season opener.

The Lady Indians (0-1) connected on only 10-of-59 field goal attempts (16.9 percent) and suffered a 49-33 loss to Woodford County in Versailles.

Brianna Bierbaum had 11 points and six rebounds for Central, while Jekauri McKeithen had 11 rebounds and six points.

The Yellow Jackets were up 7-4 after the first quarter and took a 24-8 lead into halftime.

The Lady Indians had 21 turnovers and were 4-of-15 from three-point range. They also hit just 9-of-15 free throws.

Brittany Campbell had four points. Kendall Clines had three points and five rebounds. Hannah Ashcraft had three points. Raelynn Miller had two points. Eve Carter had two points and eight rebounds.

Woodford County out-rebounded Central 53-42 and got 19 points off turnovers.

The Lady Yellow Jackets led by as much as 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Central is set to return to action Friday at Bourbon County.
