The Pirates led for most of the first half when they took on district rival Kentucky Country Day last month in Berea before suffering a 36-14 loss.

The teams met again on Friday in the opening round of the KHSAA Class A Playoffs.

And the rematch was much different.

The undefeated Bearcats (11-0) took control early and rolled to a 50-0 win over Berea Community in Louisville. KCD had a 17-0 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime with a 36-point lead.

The Bearcats advance to the district championship game and will face Eminence next week at home.

The Warriors beat Frankfort, 34-14, on Friday.

KCD came up with a big defensive stop on fourth down and then added a safety to take a 9-0 lead with 6:13 left in the first quarter.

The Bearcats found the end zone again with 2:34 left in the first quarter and added another TD less than two minutes into the second quarter to take a 24-0.

The loss brings a tough ending to a fantastic season for Berea.

The Pirates had won just one total game in the previous four seasons.

This season, Berea won all seven of its non-district games. The Pirates opened the season with six-straight wins.

They wrapped up the regular season with a 42-14 win over Jellico, Tenn.

Berea's seven wins are the most for the program since 2008.

The Pirates had not even qualified for the playoffs in five years.
