A pair of Madison Central cross country standouts came within a few seconds of claiming individual championships on Saturday at the Haunted Woods Classic.
Ciara O'Shea and Brady Masters both took second place.
The event took place at Oldham County High School.
O'Shea posted a time of 18:41.7, which was six seconds behind Jessica Secor of Dupont Manual. The Central sophomore - who is the two-time defending Class AAA state champ - had won all five high school events she had competed so far this season.
Masters had a time of 15:47.10 on Saturday. Jimmy Mullarky of Fern Creek took the title with a mark of 15:44.20.
Led by Masters, Central placed sixth in the team competition with 156 points.
Marcus Hutchinson (17:24.6) was 16th. Wesley Stokes (17:59.7) was 40th. Noah Halloran (18:03.8) was 43rd. Austin Jacobson (18:09.3) was 55th. Chase Rule (18:28.5) was 74th and Nicholas Sundys (18:45.3) was 86th.
In the girls race, Central's Meredith Campbell finished 80th with a time of 21:48.3). Amilya Reynolds (22:02.3) was 95th and Ella Stokes (26:46.0) was 286th.
