Madison Central's Gavin O'Shea averaged more than a goal a game during his junior season.

The speedy forward was among the state's leading goal scorers and his offensive ability helped the Indians advance to the semifinals of the 11th Region Tournament.

On Wednesday, O'Shea was honored for a tremendous season.

The junior was named East First-Team All-State by the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association.

O'Shea had 25 goals on the season, which was 13th-best in the state. He also had nine assists for a total of 59 points, which was 15th in the state.

The junior scored at least once in 13 of Central's 16 games. O'Shea had a season-best four goals against Boyle County on Sept. 24 and also had three goals twice -- against Shelby County and Berea Community.

The Indians won their first 13 games before falling to Madison Southern in the 44th District Tournament title game.

Central rebounded with a 3-2 win over Great Crossing in the opening round of the 11th Region Tournament. O'Shea had two goals in that victory.

The Indians had their season come to an end with a 3-2 loss to Henry Clay in the 11th Region semifinals on Oct. 20.
