Madison Central and Scott County have met in the 11th Region Tournament four times in the past six seasons.

And the old rivals could be set for another postseason showdown.

The Indians (14-17) will take on Tates Creek (16-13) today in the opening round at Madison Central High School. The winner advances to the regional semifinal to face either Scott County (16-16) or Frankfort (18-15).

Berea Community (22-9) -- the 44th District runner-up -- is set to face Frederick Douglass (20-11) today in Lexington. The winner will take on Lexington Catholic (29-2) or Franklin County (16-15).

The 11th Region semifinals are scheduled for Thursday -- 6:30 and 8 p.m. -- at McBrayer Arena.

The championship game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at EKU.

The Indians are back in the regional tournament for the 34th-straight season -- the third-longest active streak in the state.

Central claimed its third-straight 44th District title (and 24th in the past 25 years) with a 70-40 win over Berea Community on Friday in the championship game.

Tates Creek is back in the 11th Region Tournament for the first time since 2011.

The Commodores have lost eight of their past 11 games, but beat Lexington Christian Academy, 55-54, in the semifinals of the 43rd District Tournament. They fell to Lexington Catholic, 72-52, in the title game.

The Indians have been led all season by a pair of standout juniors.

Kole Browne is the Central's top scorer (17.8) and rebounder (4.7), while Braeden Ray (14.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg) is second in both those categories.

That duo has combined to score more than half of the team's points this season - 952 of 1,887.

Senior guard Amari Taylor has hit a team-best 49 three-pointers for Tates Creek and is averaging 14.6 points a game. Senior Cion Townsend has been in the free throw line 142 times this season and is averaging 10.0 points a game.

The Commodores and Indians have not met in more than three years (Jan. 24, 2017).

Central has won three-straight against the Commodores.

Berea vs. Frederick Douglass
