Madison Central's Clay Pendergrass is still in the hunt for a title after the first day of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Boys Golf Tournament.
The sophomore shot a +1, 73 on Tuesday and is five shots off the lead. Pendergrass is tied for 12th place heading into Wednesday's final round.
The event is being held at the Bowling Green County Club.
Jay Nimmo of Marshall County, Matthew Troutman of Christian Academy of Louisville and Rylan Wootherspoon of Cooper are all tied at the top of the leaderboard after shooting rounds of -4, 68.
Two other golfers are at -3.
Central's Warren Thomis shot a +4, 76, on Tuesday and is tied for 26th.
Madison Southern's Clifton Scully shot a +15, 87, and is tied for 100th.
Pendergrass had bogeys on No. 1, 9 and had a birdie on No. 3 to make the turn at +1. On the back nine, he had a birdie on No. 10 and a bogey on No. 14.
Thomis had bogeys on No. 1 and 4 before a birdie on No. 5. He had a birdie on No. 14, but had a bogey on No, 14 and a double bogey on No. 17.
Scully had bogeys on each of the first five holes, then had a double bogey on No. 6. He did not have a birdie in the opening round.
