LEXINGTON -- The Indians had been matched up against Lexington Christian Academy in almost every event they played this season.

And they hadn't been able to find a way to finish ahead of the Eagles.

Central got yet another chance on Monday in Lexington.

The Indians put together a tremendous all-around effort and still came up just a few strokes short.

LCA posted a score of 290 and claimed the Region 9 championship at Kearny Hill Golf Links. Central finished with an impressive score of 293, but the team will not advance to next week's Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Meet.

In previous years, the top two teams from each region moved on to the state championship.

This year, only one team advances to Bowling Green.

A pair of Central standouts earned state tournament berths as individuals.

Freshman Clay Pendergrass tied for fourth place with a -1, 71, and Cooper Eberle shot an even-par 72 and tied for sixth.

The top seven individuals not on the winning team qualified for the state.

Central's Gavin McKune (+2, 74) tied for the final at-large spot with two other golfers -- but lost in a playoff.

Central's Warren Thomis tied for 13th after shooting a +4, 76 and Bryce Snapp tied for 30th with a score of +8, 80.

LCA's Alexander Bassell took the individual title with a -4, 68. LCA's Jansen Preston and Lafayette's Henry Lane tied for second after shooting -3, 69s.

Model shot a team total of 339 and finished 11th.

Mason Hamrick tied for 13th with a +4, 76.

Model's Nate Feese (83) tied for 36th, Caleb Ballard (89) tied for 59th, Thomas Luxon (91) tied for 64th and Jake Hajjar (92) tied for 67th.

Madison Southern finished 13th in the 19-team field.

Clifton Scully tied for 32nd after shooting a +9, 81. Sam Bingham (85) was 42nd, Ben Ferguson (89) tied for 59th, Jonah Wooten (96) tied for 75th and Jonah Ferguson (98) tied for 79th.

Berea Community's Jacob Robinson shot a +21, 93, and finished tied for 69th.
