Zach Hudson was 3-for-3 with a triple and scored once, but the Madison Southern baseball team suffered an 8-2 loss to Wayne County (15-7) on Saturday in Monticello.

The Eagles (8-13) had eight hits as they had a two-game winning streak snapped.

The Cardinals scored twice in the first and four times in the second inning and never railed. Wayne County had 11 total hits off three Southern pitchers - Mason Himes (1 1/3 innings), Braden Hudson (3 2/3 innings) and Tristan Ingram (one inning).

Corey Causey was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles. Caleb Cobb was 1-for-3 with a double and scored once. Himes was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kaden Carr White was 1-for-3.

Southern is set to return to action Monday at home against Lincoln County.

Lady Eagles fall again

The Lady Eagles (1-16) out-hit North Laurel (16-10), 9-5, on Saturday on London, but couldn't come up with a win on the road.

Madison Southern's losing streak reached 16 games with a 7-5 loss.

Crystal Cooke was 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Jada Carter and Katelyn Bolin were both 2-for-4 as well.

The Lady Eagles have not won since March 24.

Southern tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, before the Lady Jaguars pushed across six run in the bottom of the inning.

The Lady Eagles committed four errors, which led to six unearned runs.

Belle Strunk went the distance in the circle. She allowed five hits, one earned run and two walks with one walk.

Lydia Grinstead was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored once. Larkin White was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored once and Ashlan Estep was 1-for-4.

Southern is set to return to action Monday at Rockcastle County.
