The Eagles (0-1) were handed a 6-2 season-opening loss by South Laurel (1-1) Thursday in Berea.

The Cardinals finished with 10 hits and scored four times in the third inning and never trailed again. Madison Southern had eight hits and scored once in the first and fourth innings.

Carson Livers was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles. Landon Noe was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Caleb Cobb was 2-for-4. Aiden Lilly was 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Braden Hudson and Zach Morgeson were both 1-for-4.

Cobb started and worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, five runs and three walks with one strikeout.

Morgeson pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hit and one run with four strikeouts.

Southern is set to return to action Saturday at home against Walton-Verona.
