The Madison Central Indians fell just short Tuesday in their quest for the title of the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic in Maysville, falling to host Mason County 56-49.

The Royals jumped out to a 19-10 lead over the Indians after one quarter and hung on for the wire-to-wire win.

The Indians were down 31-24 at the half, 42-34 after three quarters and got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Kirkland Humphrey lead the way for the Indians with 20 points. Cameron Thomas was the only other Indian in double figures with 11 points. Jacob Taylor finished with nine points, John Williams had four points, Seth Richardson had three points and Terique Miller added two points.

Bellevue 74, Berea Community 69

The Berea Community Pirates fell 74-69 in overtime to host Bellevue Tuesday in the Swauger Holiday Classic in Bellevue.

Berea lead 55-51 inside the final minute, but couldn’t hang onto the lead. The Pirates missed a couple of free throws and had a big turnover late and Bellevue capitalized to tie the game (55-55) at the end of regulation and send it into overtime.

The Tigers took control early in overtime and pulled away for the win.

“We let it slip away at there at the end,” Berea coach Cameron Jackson said. “We missed some free throws and they went down and scored, then we had a turnover at the end and they tied it up and we never could get it back in overtime.”

Bradley Atkins lead three Pirates in double figures with 19 points. Jarrel Tevis finished with 16 points and Shyiem Alexander added 15 points.

In the final game of the tournament Saturday evening, Berea came out a little sluggish to begin the game, But once they got it going, they dominated Dayton on their way to the 65-31 win.

Berea trailed 11-8 after one quarter, but then got its offense cranked up. The Pirates outscored Dayton 21-7 in the second quarter to go up 29-17 at the half.

They extended their lead to 49-24 after three quarters, then outscored Dayton 16-6 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the win.

Atkins led the way once again, with a game-high 16 points. Dustin Kates finished with 13 points and six rebounds and  Alexander added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Jarrel Tevis had seven points, two rebounds and three steals, Deondre Tate had six points and six rebounds, Austin Warford had five points, four rebounds and five assists, Derek Castle had four points, Caleb Clowers added two points and Dalton Gadd had one point and two rebounds.

The Pirates are set to return to action Jan. 2 at Madison Central.
