Four Eastern Kentucky University golfers earned postseason Ohio Valley Conference honors, the league announced earlier this week.
Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir and Vilma Efraimsson were chosen to the 2020 All-OVC Team. Efraimsson and teammate Elisa Orduna Shackleton earned spots on the All-OVC Newcomer Team.
Junior Markus Lindgren was also selected to the 2020 All-Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer Team
Kristinsdottir, a junior from Reykjavik, Iceland, led the team and was fourth in the OVC with a 75.07 stroke average, the fourth-lowest single season average in program history. She shot four rounds at par or below. Kristinsdottir placed second in a field of 90 golfers at the Terrier Intercollegiate (Oct. 28-29) with a season-low 54-hole total of 216 (E), which also tied for the sixth lowest score in program history. She shot a season best round of 70 at the Cardinal Cup (Oct. 18-20).
Efraimsson, a junior from Ulricehamn, Sweden, was second on the team, and 14th in the OVC, with a 76.76 stroke average, the 14th-lowest single season average in program history.
Orduna Shackleton, a freshman from Zaragoza, Spain, had the third-best stroke average on the team at 77.86, which is also the 27th-lowest single season average in program history.
Lindgren, a Sollentuna, Sweden native was second on the team with a 72.65 stroke average, ranking 14th in the OVC. He played in six events and a total of 17 rounds, shooting par or below in seven rounds. Lindgren tied for 12th in a field of 96 at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 9-10), compiling a season-low 54-hole score of 208 (-5). He shot a season-low round of 68 at the Marshall Invitational and the Battle at the Beach (March 9-10).
Lindgren played his first two seasons of collegiate golf at Lindenwood University before joining the EKU program before the 2019-20 season.
Although the OVC Golf Championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, golf was unique in that when the season ended in March, over 71 percent of the scheduled contests for the year had been completed. That combined with the fact that golf does not play a conference schedule, it was deemed there was enough statistical data to award the All-OVC and All-Newcomer Teams honors. However, it was decided the Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year awards would not be awarded this year since the championship was not conducted.
