Eleven players — including EKU’s Matthew Jackson — have been added to the watch list for the 2021 Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award.
The honor is given annually to the best defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
The original list included 35 players. A 50-member, national media panel will select the winner following the regular season.
Jackson, a native of Nashville, Tenn.. is one of three ASUN players on the list.
The redshirt junior linebacker leads the ASUN in tackles per game (8.9). He was a team-best 7.0 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks, along with six pass break-ups and two forced fumbles.
Jackson has recorded 10 or more tackles four times this season — against Austin Peay, Western Carolina, Tarleton State and Central Arkansas (14). He came up with an interception in the win over Austin Peay.
The linebacker also had three quarterback hurries against Indiana State.
Jackson has appeared in 38 games as a Colonel, recording 186 total tackles with 16 tackles-for-loss and six sacks.
The linebacker named a 2021 preseason Third-Team All-American by Stats Perform.
Colonels fall in polls
After two-straight losses, the Colonels (6-3, 3-1 AQ7) slipped this week in both major polls.
EKU fell from No. 19 to No. 25 in the FCS Coaches Poll.
The Colonels, however still received 13 more votes than Stephen F. Austin (6-3), who they lost to on Saturday in Texas.
In the Stats Perform FCS Poll, EKU dropped out of the Top 25 after being ranked 22nd last week.
The Colonels received 15 votes, putting them 31st.
