The Lady Pirates moved back into the championship game of the 11th Region All "A" Classic with an emphatic victory on the home court of a long-time cross-county rival.

Abigail Beard had 12 points and five other players reached double figures as Berea Community (14-1) blasted Model Laboratory (11-6), 72-43, on Wednesday in Richmond. Madison Howell and Alexis Newman each finished with 11 points for the Lady Pirates.

Berea used an 18-0 run in the first quarter to quickly take control.

The Lady Pirates will face Sayre (7-5) on Saturday in the title game. Berea has won three-straight 11th Region All "A" Classic championships.

"It felt wonderful to get out to a big early lead," Beard said. "We had a couple of people score their first varsity points. It was just a great win, overall."

Berea was up 22-3 after the first quarter and took a 39-11 lead into halftime.

Mati Stepp had 10 points and six assists. Chesney Lovins had 10 points also. Isis Rogers and Maddy King both had seven points and three assists, while Mackenzie Howell and Kadee Stepp had two points each.

Keaton Hall had 22 points for Model, while Taylor LeCompete had 12 points and five rebounds. E.K. Lawson added seven points and Megan Perkins had two points.

Berea shot 56 percent from the field, including 9-of-18 from three-point range. The Lady Pirates had 17 assists on 30 field goals.

Model is set to return to action Saturday at East Jessamine.
