Whether it's for the carnival rides, the food, the exhibits, the pageants or one of the many events, the Madison County Fair & Horse Show is a long-standing tradition for many in the community.

As of this week, the fair is officially underway with the fun running through Aug. 3. It's a perfect opportunity for families and friends to have one last bit of summer fun before school begins next month. It also is a great time for children and adults to show off projects they've been working on all year.

The fair features the many familiar family favorites, such as the mud run, Paradise Amusement carnival rides and truck and tractor pulls. Other county fair favorites are back too, like beauty and baby pageants.

While there is plenty of fun to be had, there is also a chance for all of us, especially children, to learn what this community and country was built on -- farming.

Throughout the duration, there will be livestock and cattle shows.

We believe Madison County Extension agent Brandon Sears said it best.

The fair "gives the kids a chance to learn about hard work, teaches them responsibility, teaches them about taking care of animals and life lessons."

Those life lessons are just as important as enjoying the fried food and carnival rides at the fair.

So when trying to find something to do over the next week, give the Madison County Fair & Horse Show a chance if you haven't before. It is a great way to have family fun and learn a great life lesson.
