Eastern Kentucky University students received an alert at around 3:20 a.m. on Friday indicating that an "emergency situation" that had developed earlier in the morning had been resolved.
Students received an alert just after 2 a.m. of shots being fired near South Main Street in Richmond.
Students were urged to take shelter and secure doors.
Students were told that the suspect was possibly moving in the direction of the EKU campus.
The latest alert said students were free to resume normal activities.
The Richmond Police Department continues to investigate.
