Eastern Kentucky University Director of Athletics Matt Roan and Bryan Makinen, executive director of public safety, announced in an email on Thursday, July 2 that three student-athletes and three athletics staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.
“The health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff is our primary concern. We value our entire campus community's privacy and will limit information that could further identify any individual,” the email said.
According to the email, the affected individuals have been isolated and the athletics department is amending schedules as necessary for voluntary workouts.
The university has identified the spaces where these individuals were located and contracted professional cleaning.
“EKU’s administration is working in conjunction with the Madison County Health Department to trace and notify the contacts of those who received positive test results,” the email states.
Roan and Makinen emphasized the importance of adhering to social distancing, use of facial coverings, proper hand hygiene, proper cough etiquette and staying home if ill.
