Hope’s Wings and Richmond City Hall kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a Lunch at City Hall Tuesday. Jennifer Lainhart, director of Hope’s Wings, talked to attendees about issues concerning domestic violence, such as how domestic violence is a misdemeanor in Madison County, unless the perpetrator has committed it three separate times. She also talked about sexual abuse, and how it’s hard for victims of sexual abuse to come forward because of the way people react to accusations, often commenting on what the victim was wearing or that the victim had said they wanted it, but later changed their mind. “We’re allowed to change our minds,” she said.
