The Richmond Chamber of Commerce held its 37th annual awards banquet in-person on Thursday -- a return to normalcy after it was held virtually last year.
Representatives from various local businesses celebrated at the Keen Johnson Building. The theme of this year's banquet was "Stayin' Alive," a nod to the perseverance of the business community throughout the height of the pandemic.
"The 37th Annual Chamber Awards banquet was a great success," Richmond Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director Madison Pergrem said. "People from a variety of businesses and organizations attended to honor and support the achievements in 2021. Even throughout COVID-19, many businesses overcame the challenges through making adjustments and being innovative. We were happy to have the privilege of honoring those businesses Thursday night."
Baptist Health Richmond was presented with the 2021 Business of the Year award.
The hospital has been a crucial community partner throughout the pandemic by hosting testing sites, vaccine drives, and treating those with COVID-19.
According to a previous Register article, as the delta variant spread across Madison County, the hospital saw a surge in positive patients with the peak number of 37 patients at one time.
In late September, the hospital welcomed the assistance of the National Guard. Since that time, 20 service members have been helping the hospital in numerous areas.
The guard is scheduled to resign their post at the hospital on Nov. 15.
"Though these past 18 months have been one of the most challenging times for our team, both personally and professionally, this award represents why we continue to show up every day to care for our community --- because we believe in what we're doing. Thank you for this amazing honor and recognition," the hospital said in Facebook post in recognition of their award.
Hogg Therapy Associates was named the 2021 Small Business of the Year.
"Our therapists and admin staff work so hard to serve families in Richmond and Madison County, and their dedication is absolutely deserving of this award. We appreciate our community so much and look forward to many, many more years of serving children in Madison County and beyond," the business said in a Facebook post after the banquet.
This year, the Chamber unveiled a new name for the organization's beautification award in honor of the late Chris and Gracie Hager who were killed in August.
"Chris and Gracie Hager had an enormous impact on the city and community of Richmond in several ways. One of those ways was how they beautified the town through their many projects. We thought naming our beautification award the 'Chris and Gracie Hager Beautification Award' helps honor the work they did as well as the great work other people in the community do through their own projects beautifying our city," Pergrem said of the award.
